Copland: Old American Songs; Bernstein: Chichester Psalms; Mark O’Connor: Americana Symphony

The Symphony Chorale performs with the orchestra on two classic choral works by Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland. The Springfield Symphony Orchestra participated in the commissioning of the other featured work composed by the American classical fiddler, Mark O’Connor – Americana Symphony. Performance Prelude and Opening Notes with Professor Trudy Faber begins at 7:15 p.m.

Spotlighting a mix of jazz, pop, be-bop, and swing, The Manhattan Transfer (Tim Hauser, Cheryl Bentyne, Alan Paul, and Janis Siegel) has been providing world-class vocal entertainment for more than forty years. They made history when becoming the first group to win Grammy Awards in two different categories in the same year, and over their career, The Manhattan Transfer has collected eight Grammys, further cementing their icon status in the national and international music landscape while creating a sound entirely unique in the field of American popular song!

Jay Unger and Molly Mason both grew up listening to and loving the traditional fiddle and pop music of the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. Molly performed with the house band of Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion while Jay established the Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp, now a world-renowned destination for enthusiasts of American music and dance traditions. Their latest album, Relax Your Mind, is a collection of country blues, waltzes, vintage jazz, western swing, two steps and Dixieland jams, recorded with their band Swingology. Jay and Molly will be joined by members of the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Lobby Party begins at 6:00 PM offering a cash bar and delicious free appetizers catered by Simply Delicious.
